 Robert (Bob) Shockey Dies In Auto Accident

Well known evangelist, pastor, and denominational leader Bob Shockey died Friday, March 7, 2008 when his small Toyota pickup truck left the road and struck a tree in rural Cheatham County, Tennessee.  Brother Shockey leaves a legacy of faithfulness serving  Free Will Baptist ministries.  He is the former General Directorof National Home Missions; served Free Will Baptist Bible College as Christian Service Director and Director of Public Relations; started churches; pastored churches; and  led evangelism efforts all over the country and in other countries.  Brother Shockey is survived by his wife and two daughters.  He will be greatly missed.

 

Harvey's Leave For Central Asia

After more than a year of itinerate services, Dale and Alyssa Harvey left for Central Asia on Monday, March 17, 2008.  They arrived safely and are already engaged in learning the language and culture of people with whom they seek to win to Christ.     Please pray for the Harveys.  They  will be serving for one year in Kazakistan. 

 

McVays Scheduled For Stateside Assignment

Sam and June McVay will be returning from Spain in the early Spring and will be visiting many churches especially in Tennessee and Florida during their time home. They will be the featured missionary speakers at the Tennessee State Association annual meeting to be held in Pigeon Forge November 10 - 12, 2008.  Meanwhile, construction has begun on the new church building in Spain.

 

FREE WILL BAPTIST FAMILY MINISTRIES PLANNING NEW FACILITY

A new assisted living facility has been approved by the Family Ministries Board. The facility will be built in Unicoi, Tennessee and will be similar to the one opend in Wise, Virginia in January of 2007.  Free Will Baptist Family Ministries is now ministering  to the total family with programs for unwed mothers, children at risk, drug and alcohol program and the elderly.  Dr. James Kilgore and his dedicated staff leads this tremendous ministry.


E. B. McDonald Dies

E. B. McDonald, former treasurer of Free Will Baptist Bible College passed away January 29, 2008 after an extended illness.  Brother Mac held many positions over the years in the Cumberland Association as well as the Tennessee State Association of Free Will Baptists.  Perhaps his greatest legacy is the contribution he and his wife left through his family. They had four sons; Tim, who pastors the Carlisle Free Will Baptist Church, Donnie, whose family serves in Japan as an international missionaries, Richard, who serves in the church music field and David who is retired from the  Dickson Police Department.


Herman Hersey With The Lord

Herman Hersey, founder and first director of the Free Will Baptist Board of Retirement went to be with the Lord, January 24, 2008.  He and his wife, Vernie,  had moved to Jackson, Tennessee several years ago to live near their only daughter, Pat,  and son-in-law James.  Herman was a pastor, church planter, and visionary.  He also began the Free Will Baptist Foundation. Present director of the Board of Retirement, Ray Lewis, conducted the funeral which was held in Jackson.
